빨대 Strohhalm

So wie das Hintergrundbild mit der Horizontlinie in zwei Ebenen geteilt wird, so laufe auch ich in das Wasser, bis eine Hälfte meines Körpers im Wasser und die andere Hälfte an der Oberfläche bleibt. Damit hat mein Körper eine ähnliche Funktion wie die Horizontlinie: Er positioniert sich an der Trennlinie zwischen Wasser und Luft. In dieser Position beginne ich mithilfe des Strohhalms eine zeremonielle Handlung, die sich aus einer Bewegung in vier Takten zusammensetzt:

1. Ich atme ein und halte die Luft in meinem Mund.

2. Ich atme aus und blase die Luft ins Wasser.

3. Ich sauge das Wasser in meinen Mund.

4. Ich puste das Wasser durch die Luft.

Eine Phase aus vier Takten wird wiederholt. Bei der formalen Orientierung am Ende des Videos, setzen die Elemente Bild, Audio und Zeit nacheinander aus. Die Erinnerung an die vorherige Spur bleibt noch erhalten. Mit dieser bewussten Setzung wollte ich „ Ein Ende, das aber nicht endet“ herstellen.

Der Titel der Arbeit trägt zwei Wörter mit gleicher Bedeutung und auf zwei Sprachen: Koreanisch und Deutsch. Ich übersetze meine Erfahrung in einem anderem Kulturraum zu leben und eine andere Sprache zu sprechen, in die visuelle Formensprache des Videos. Die zu Grunde liegende Idee, die mich diese Szenerie auswählen ließ, ist eine Frage aus meiner Kindheit: Wissen die Vögel im Himmel von den Fischen im Wasser? Ich habe dieses kindliche Bild wieder benutzt, um meine heutige Situation zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Meine Rolle ist es zwischen Wasser und Luft, stellvertretend für Korea und Deutschland, zu vermitteln. Mit meiner zeremoniellen Handlung kann ich diese zwei Ebenen verbinden.

The background on the screen is divided into two areas by a horizontal line, and I walk into the water until the half of my body sinks under water and the other half of my body stays above the surface. My body itself plays the similar role to the horizon as it is positioned on the separating line between the water and air. At this position, I begin a ceremonial action with a straw, a circling action which is developed after four different movements.

1. I breathe in and keep the air in my mouth.

2. I blow the air into the water.

3. I suck up the water in my mouth.

4. I puff out the water into the air.

These four movements are repeated as one phase. To explain the end of the video, each element - image, sound and time - is divided from each other and dissolves successively. The memory of the previous moments remains, suggesting that the act of the artist continues. Through this, I would like to give an effect "the end, that doesn't end."

The German and Korean title of the work both consist of two words in the same principle and composition. I translate my experience that I'm living in a different culture speaking a different language into a visual language of video. The basic idea about the background of the video comes from the curiosity I had in my childhood: Do the birds in the sky recognize the fish in the water? I bring this view of my childhood in this video in order to represent my present situation. I am on the line between the water and the air, in other words, between Korea and Germany. My performance connects these two areas.
